I hope you had a fabulous, relaxing Christmas break and you’re all ready for the new term.
English and Reading
This term in English, we will be focusing on ‘The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe’ by C.S. Lewis. The children will be writing several pieces based on the book and clips from the film.
This links with guided reading as we are answering questions based on the book in these sessions.
Please ensure that you are reading with you child at least 3 times a week and your child has their reading book in school every day.
This term we are carrying on with fractions and times tables. Please quiz your children at home ready for the statutory test at the end of Year 4 that will assess the children on all the tables, 12x12, there are loads of great websites on the school fun zone.
History and Geography
After studying British history last term, we are now looking at world civilisations, specifically focusing on the Ancient Maya. We are looking at the geographical skill of map reading and the changes throughout time. We will also be studying the lives of the Mayan people and making comparisons to our lives now.
Our focus is Hinduism and answering the question ‘What does it mean to be a Hindu living in Britain today?. The children will be discovering information about Hinduism and relating it to other faiths and society today.
We are continuing the plants topic from last term, we will be recapping the areas from last year and conducting some practical experiments to support our knowledge.
We will be looking at protective behaviours, SRE, online safety and understanding the world around us.
We are doing circuit training this term, focusing core, cardio, arms and legs workouts. PE is on Tuesday and Friday, please make sure your children have their full PE kit on these days.
Homework is given out on Monday due in before Friday.
Spellings are also given out on Monday ready for a test on the following Monday. Please practise these with your children regularly in preparation for the test.
Times tables test is on Wednesday, the website we use for the test is on the school website. Please encourage your children to go on this at home.
Remember they can also access Bedrock or Nessy and Sumdog at home as well.
