Welcome to Year 3/4!

I hope you had a wonderful summer and your all ready for the new year ahead. I am so excited about this year and the adventures and learning that will be taking place.

English and Reading

For the first half of the term we will be focusing on a character description, using a short animation for inspiration as well as looking at fantastic authors such as Roald Dahl. At the end of the unit, children will write their own character description, which I am excited to read.

There is a focus on reading throughout the school and in guided reading we’re reading The Children of Green Knowe by Lucy M. Boston.

Please ensure that you are reading with you child at least 3 times a week and your child has their reading book in school every day.

Maths

The topic is place value and times tables, please quiz your children at home ready for the statutory test at the end of Year 4 that will assess the children on all the tables, 12x12.

History and Geography

Throughout Autumn we are studying the Roman Empire, focusing on the timeline and the changes throughout time. We will be looking at the invasion on Britain and creating Roman art linking to mosaics. The children will be designing their own Roman shield linking to their knowledge about why the shields are significant.

RE

Our focus is Humanism and answering the question ‘What do Humanist celebrations tell us about the things Humanists value?’. The children will be linking their knowledge of other faiths to answer this important question.

Science

We are focusing on the digestive system with the intension of understanding the process of digestion. The children will be linking their knowledge of the Roman diet to a modern diet and comparing types of poo. Later in the term, we will be looking at teeth and their function, as well as conducting an experiment about tooth decay.

PSHE

We will be looking at protective behaviours, SRE, online safety and understanding the world around us.

PE

We are doing hockey this term, focusing on controlling the ball and passing safely and accurately. PE is on Tuesday and Friday, please make sure your children have their full PE kit on these days.
