Miss Fowler’s Class Newsletter Term 2 2017-2018

Welcome back, I hope that you all had a lovely half term!

Our theme for this term is “Where does the rubbish go?” and we will be learning all about rubbish trucks, landfill sites and recycling. The children will have the opportunity at the end of the term to make their own recycling board games.

In science, we will be looking at living things and their habitats. This will involve learning about how to classify animals and thinking about how animals are suited to their particular environments. We will link our theme and science by thinking about the effects of inappropriate waste disposal on habitats.

In RE, we will be looking at the different religions in our community and finding out about their important festivals.

In PSHE we will be looking at using statistics and Nelson Mandela. We will also be thinking about how families are different and spend a lesson discussing puberty and emotional changes as well as e-safety.

In music, we will finish off studying the history of Western music and then practice our song for the carol concert as part of a unit looking at musical performance.

We will be doing a number of different things in art including a collaborative piece and junk modelling. Please could I ask you to save up any rubbish that can be used for junk modelling and send it in with your child (please make sure that it safe for children to use, i.e. no sharp edges)?

PE will be on a Tuesday afternoon and a Thursday morning. Please ensure that your child has the appropriate PE kit in school on these days so that they are able to participate.

Homework will continue to be set on a Friday, but is now due in the following Wednesday. Please continue to read and practise times tables with your children. It is the expectation that by the end of Year Four they should know all times tables up to 12x12. As always, please come and see me if you are concerned about any aspect of your child’s life at school. I am looking forward to continuing to help your children progress on their learning journey this term.
