Miss Fowler’s Class Newsletter Spring Term 2 2017-2018
Welcome back! I hope that you all had a lovely half term. Our theme for this term is Italy.
In Geography we will be finding out where Italy is and learning about Italy’s physical geography, history and culture. We will also learn about Leonardo da Vinci and test some of his famous theories.
In science we will be learning about states of matter. We will compare and group solids, liquids and gasses and investigate how and why different materials change state. We will also look more closely at specific parts of the water cycle that the children enjoyed learning about last term.
In RE we will be thinking about rights and responsibilities for children as they get older and learning about Bar/Bat Mitzvah. We will also compare coming of age in Judaism with different religions.
We will cover a range of different topics in PSHE. These include target setting, jealousy, developed and developing countries, sex and relationships and e-safety.
In music we will be learning about tempo, dynamics and harmony. This fits in nicely with our theme of Italy, as most tempo and dynamic directions are Italian. We will also have a go at learning the Italian National Anthem.
In art/D.T. we will spend some time developing our still life drawing skills. To fit in with our Italian theme, we will be looking at some of the work of Leonardo da Vinci as well as making our own volcanoes and pizzas.
In English we will be writing holiday brochures and fantasy stories.
In maths we will be focusing on geometry as well as addition/subtraction/multiplication/division calculations.
PE will be on a Tuesday afternoon and a Thursday morning. Please ensure that your child has the appropriate PE kit in school on these days so that they are able to participate. Earrings must be removed for PE, if your child is unable to remove their earrings on their own please make sure that they have been removed before school.
Homework will continue to be set on a Friday and is due in the following Wednesday. Please continue to read and practise times tables with your children. It is the expectation that by the end of Year Four they should know all times tables up to 12x12. As always, please come and see me if you are concerned about any aspect of your child’s life at school. I am looking forward to continue to help your children progress on their learning journey this term.
