Miss Fowler’s Class Newsletter Term 1 2017-2018

Welcome to Year 4/5! This is my first year teaching at St. Mary’s and I am really excited for the year ahead.

Our theme for this term is the Anglo-Saxons. We will be looking at how the Anglo-Saxons invaded Britain, the impact their presence had on religion, and their daily lives, art and culture. I am planning an Anglo-Saxon experience day, more details of this will be given to you as and when they are finalised.

In Science, we will be studying everyday materials, thinking about their properties, uses, and reversible/irreversible changes.

In RE, we will be looking at Christian, Sikh and Muslim teachings and ideas, and thinking about what can be learnt from them.

In PSHE we will be looking at sustainable developments. In Music, we will be studying the history of Western music and finding out about the different periods in musical history through listening to a range of music and singing it ourselves.

PE will be on a Tuesday afternoon and a Thursday morning. Please ensure that your child has the appropriate PE kit in school on these days so that they are able to participate.

English and maths homework will be issued on Sumdog on a Friday and must be completed (either in school or at home) by the following Monday. Spellings are given out and tested on a Friday. All children are also expected to practise their times tables for their weekly test.

I am looking forward to getting to know you all, so please come and say hello in the first few weeks of term. If you ever have any concerns or queries about your child’s life at school please do not hesitate to speak to me about them.

Please make sure all items of clothing  are  clearly  labelled as every year we have  a large amount of  lost property.
