Mr. Middleton’s Class Newsletter Term 1 2017-18

Dear parents,

I would like to welcome you and your child to my class for year 3/4. Last year was my first back in Key Stage 2 after a couple of years in year 1 and I’m really looking forward to the year.

Our theme for this term is ‘What was it like in Ancient Egypt?’ We will be looking at the location of Egypt in the World, the locations of key places within Egypt, the importance of the Nile, lifestyles of the rich and the famous and much more. Towards the end of the term I am planning to take the class on a school trip with a difference, more details nearer the time! Your child will be encouraged to ask questions and research answers too.

In science, we will look at parts of the body, in particular, the digestive system. This will link to our Egyptians theme in a fairly gruesome way!

In PSHE we'll look at friendships and how to get on, ideal for a new class!

In RE we'll be comparing and contrasting the similarities and differences between a Christian outlook and a Humanist one.

PE will be on a Wednesday morning and a Friday afternoon. Please make sure your child has the appropriate PE kit as they can’t do lessons unless they are wearing appropriate kit. Please also note that no earrings can be worn during PE lessons.

This year the school is trialling online homework. We will use Sumdog for all of our homework. Maths homework will be set on Monday to Thursday and English Friday to Sunday. If you have any issues with your child accessing the internet for their homework, please let me know.

The rest of this news letter tells you dates and other important pieces of information that I hope will help your child settle successfully and quickly into the next year of their time here at St. Mary’s.

As a parent of two school children myself, I’m passionate that your children should feel happy and safe in my class. Please don’t hesitate to speak to me if you want to ask questions about any aspect of your child’s school life.

Yours sincerely,

Mr. S. Middleton
