Mr Savage's Class Summer Term 1 Newsletter.

I would like to welcome you to the Summer 1 term. This newsletter will give you some information on what the children will be learning during this term.

Our theme lessons this term are all about the coast. We will be learning about the features of coastal areas and how the coastline is protected from some of the harsh conditions it endures.

Our maths lessons this term will be focussed on all things statistics! We will be building upon our existing knowledge and covering the new learning for year 5 in this area of maths.

Our English lessons this term will see us writing discussion texts on topics that will really get our children thinking. We will also be reading Anthony Browne's "Zoo" and creating our own pieces of writing based on his story.

Our young scientists will be finding out what goes on in space! We will take a fascinating look at our solar  system and develop our understanding of what goes on beyond our Earth.

Our P.E. lessons this term will see the children developing their all round skills with a range of multi-skills lessons. We will also revisit tag rugby as we are joined by coaches from the Northampton Saints for some exciting sessions.

The children's R.E. learning this term will require them to consider and develop some of their personal opinions as we consider the question, "Whose world is it and why should I care?"

We will be continuing on our year 5 computing journey and finding out how to keep information secure.

We will explore subjects such as disability and e-safety, allowing the children to discuss and debate their opinions.

Art/ D.T.

The children will be looking at the environment around us and using new skills to sketch and paint our surroundings.

Year 5 Homework

English and maths homework will be issued on Sumdog on a Thursday and must be completed (either in school or at home) by the following Monday.

Spellings are given out and tested on a Friday. All children are also expected to practise their times tables for their weekly test.

Please feel free to come and speak to Mr Savage if you have any questions about our learning for this term.
