Mr Savage's Class Spring Term 1 Newsletter.

I would like to welcome you to the Spring 1 term. This newsletter will give you some information on what the children will be learning during this term.

In our theme lessons we will be learning about the ancient Mayan civilisation. On our journey we will discover how their society was structured, their religion and beliefs and how everyday life was for Mayan people.

During our maths lessons the children will be learning about a range of measures. We will also have opportunities to use these in real life contexts and understand how measures really are all around us.

Our English lessons this term will see us writing our own narrative poetry inspired by the superb "The Highwayman". We will also be writing our own persuasive letters.

Our young scientists will learn about the habitats of British animals and have the chance to see these habitats for themselves.

Our P.E. lessons this term are inspired by the upcoming rugby Six Nations as the children learn the basic skills of tag rugby.

The children's R.E. learning will see us looking at Sikhism. We will learn about the Sikh community and the traditions of the religion.

We will be continuing on our year 5 computing journey and finding out how to keep information secure.

We will explore subjects such as disability and e-safety, allowing the children to discuss and debate their opinions.

Art/ D.T.

Children will be creating their very own Mayan temples as our D.T. learning goes hand in hand with this term's topic.

Year 5 Homework

English and maths homework will be issued on Sumdog on a Thursday and must be completed (either in school or at home) by the following Monday.

Spellings are given out and tested on a Friday. All children are also expected to practise their times tables for their weekly test.

Please feel free to come and speak to Mr Savage if you have any questions about our learning for this term.
