Mrs Perry

I can’t quite believe that this is our final term for this academic year. It always amazes me when I look at your children now, how much they have developed and learnt since they first joined my class in September.

This term is  going to be an exciting one as we still have so much learning to do,  a trip, Healthy Me Week along with the awards at the end of term.

This terms theme is The seaside. We launched the theme with a seaside morning with Mr Savage’s and Mr Midlleton’s classes. The most exciting lesson this term will actually take place at the seaside where our focus for learning will be to enjoy a day at the seaside with our friends. Through this theme, the children will be learning about  the history of seaside resorts, specifically Hunstanton, where seaside resorts are in the UK and the features of seaside resorts.  Art will also be linked to this theme. The children will have the opportunity to  develop their observational drawing skills,  water colour skills and  create using clay.

Maths -This term  our main focus will be formal methods of addition and subtraction (columns). We will continue to  work on our times tables and  we will  also be looking at associated facts using number bonds and multiplication facts. We will also revisit time, handling data and money.

English For our first week back we will be writing about the lifecycle of a sea turtle. This will be followed by a two week unit on description. After the first three weeks, all children will be in class with their own  teachers for English, we will be looking at a range of poetry, which we will reading and reciting moving on to writing poetry.

Science This half term the children will be learning about plants and what they need to grow.

RE- We will continue to learn about the Bible and the stories within it.

PE is a core subject and every child is expected to take part in these lessons.  Our lessons will take place on a Monday and Thursday. On Thursdays the children will be coached by Pacesetters in Cricket. Please ensure your child has their PE kit: black or navy shorts, plain white or blue school t-shirt and plimsolls in school for these days and that earrings have been removed. (We are not allowed to remove them.)

PSHE- Saving water,  healthy  me, moving on, e-safety

Spellings: Your child will come home with a new list of spellings on a Monday which they need to practise each day.  Please encourage your child to read, sound out and write the words carefully. All spellings are due in on Friday  and children will be tested on the Friday.

It is  essential the children  bring their books in on Fridays so that we have time to get them  prepared for Monday.

Reading: Your child will be reading daily in class through different subjects. Please ensure you listen to your child read as often as possible during the week and note in their reading record that you have done so as the more they read the bigger advantage they will have.

Currently we are concentrating on reading fluently as fluency is crucial to understanding. Pupils will be assessed on fluency and  comprehension before moving on a stage.

Please ensure your child brings their reading book into school every day.

Maths Homework:

Children will  given a maths sheet, number bonds and times tables practice sheets on Mondays, these are due in on Fridays.

Sumdog now has reading, spelling and  maths games for the children to  enjoy.
