Summer Term 2 Newsletter Year 2
Myself, Mrs Fritz and Miss Reeve would like to welcome you back after the half term break. This term has many things to look forward to and still lots of learning to do. I would like to congratulate all the children on how hard they have worked this year and how they approached their SATs. The SATs only give a snippet of the picture of the child's learning but the information is used along with teacher assessment to give the child a grade for the end of key stage 1.
For the first three weeks of this term the children will continue to learn about Space in theme and seasonal changes in science. They will also be completing artwork based on the space theme. In PE they are practicing their athletics' skills and team games. During the later part of the term we will be learning about the seaside and how it has changed over times and in DT we will be designing a lunch box and making a healthy snack. We will also be painting seascapes.
Maths – This term we will be doing more work on measures, data handling, money and problem solving whilst continuing to consolidate basic calculations and multiplication tables.
English – In English, we have a very exciting unit based on space. The book we are using is called Ollie Discovers the Planets by Anya Acres and we are even having a Skype interview with the author. This will then be followed by a unit based on Roald Dahl's Twits. A story based on two people who love playing tricks on each other.
RE - How do a Christian’s ideas about God compare with my own? The children will discuss and share their ideas about God and the Bible.
PSHE: We will be learning about water and how fortunate we are to have free access to water, self awareness, disabilities and e-safety.
PE is now on Monday and Friday afternoons. Please ensure your child has a full PE kit that is named.
