Mrs Perry

I would like to welcome you back after our mid term break. This term we will be continuing to promote reading. We have lots of new books in class and the children are enjoying borrowing additional books. Please try to listen to your child read at home as they receive a merit every time they read at home and for the children, merits mean prizes!!

This terms theme is Space. We launched the theme with a space afternoon and the children have been completing different tasks to become astronauts. Throughout the rest of the unit the children will learn about significant individuals: Neil Armstrong and Tim Peake and compare their experiences. The children will also discover fascinating facts about, the planets, stars and the moon. Art will be  linked to this unit and  we will be creating space images and use water colours to create a new planet.

Maths -This term  our main focus will be measures including cm, m, g, Kg, ml, L and time . Through these activities we will continue to practice the basic skills of  + - x and ÷ and do problem solving and  reasoning tasks. We will continue to do arithmetic weekly and  consolidate our times tables knowledge.

English We will continue to use George and the Dragon but use it to write diaries. We will then move onto  report writing, this will be linked to our theme.  Phonics and grammar groups will also be happening and children will be having comprehension lessons.

Science This half term the children will be learning about animals and humans need to survive. This will include learning about animals and their off spring and exercise, eating the right amounts of different types of food, and hygiene.

RE- We will consider what Christians think God is like.

PE is a core subject and every child is expected to take part in these lessons.  Our lessons will take place on a Monday and Wednesday. Please ensure your child has their PE kit: black or navy shorts, plain white or blue school t-shirt and plimsolls in school for these days and that earrings have been removed. (We are not allowed to remove them.) Please send in warmer clothes for Fridays as we will be having PE outside when it is dry.

PSHE- In PSHE the children will learn about  facilities in our area and think about  who uses them,  being healthy and e-safety.

Spellings: Your child will come home with a new list of spellings on a Monday which they need to practise each day.  Please encourage your child to read, sound out and write the words carefully. All spellings are due in on Friday  and children will be tested on the Friday.

It is  essential the children  bring their books in on Fridays so that we have time to get them  prepared for Monday.

Reading: Your child will be reading daily in class through different subjects. Please ensure you listen to your child read as often as possible during the week and note in their reading record that you have done so as the more they read the bigger advantage they will have.

Currently we are concentrating on reading fluently as fluency is crucial to understanding. Pupils will be assessed on fluency and  comprehension before moving on a stage.

Please ensure your child brings their reading book into school every day.

Maths Homework:

Children will  given a maths sheet, number bonds and times tables practice sheets on Mondays, these are due in on Fridays.

Comprehension Homework:

This term, I will be sending out comprehension homework out  on Fridays, this will be due in on Mondays.

Sumdog now has reading, spelling and  maths games for the children to  enjoy.
