Y6 SATs Resources

What are the Year 6 SATs?

Year 6 SATs (Standard Assessment Tests) are national assessments taken by pupils at the end of Key Stage 2. They help measure attainment in English (reading, writing, grammar and spelling) and Mathematics and provide information to support transition to secondary school.

SATs are only one measure of achievement and are considered alongside teacher assessment and classroom performance.

Why do SATs Matter?

Year 6 SATs provide an important measure of attainment at the end of primary school. The results are shared with secondary schools and form part of the national baseline used to measure progress towards GCSEs. A scaled score of 100+ represents the expected standard, while pupils achieving 110+ demonstrate a particularly strong grasp of the Key Stage 2 curriculum.

What can you do to support your child?

  • Daily reading – research from the shows that children who read for pleasure regularly achieve significantly higher reading attainment than those who rarely read for pleasure.
  • Ensure your child completes their homework on MyMaths and Bedrock.
  • Encourage regular attendance and punctuality.
  • Help establish a consistent routine, including a good night's sleep before school.
